Scottish FA Extra Time Project Outline

The Scottish FA seek to use the power of football to help support and strengthen its clubs and the communities they serve. As part of the ongoing partnership between the Scottish FA and the Scottish Government, the Scottish FA Extra Time Programme aims to provide breakfast, after school and holiday activity clubs for primary school aged children.

The programme is available to football clubs, trusts and foundations and will look to develop an understanding of how organised activities for children, and wider engagement with local support services, can improve life outcomes, particularly for those families on low incomes.

Scottish FA Extra Time Project Principles

  • An increased accessibility to organised children's activities for targeted families.
  • A better understanding of the role that organised children's activities can play in delivering food/tackling food insecurities.
  • More parents and carers from targeted families can sustain and/or increase their working hours, and/or improve their employment circumstances, take up training, studying or facilitate respite opportunities.
  • A way to measure improved mental health and wellbeing for children, parents, and carers.
  • A better understanding of additional impacts and outcomes that are realised because of providing targeted families and communities with access to funded organised activities.
  • Engagement with parents, carers, and communities to increase community involvement and the numbers of children and families participating in grassroots clubs and organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • To design and deliver Extra Time afterschool (x4 ASC's), Sunday Brunch Club and holiday activity club programmes for primary school aged children in North Edinburgh.
  • To develop and maintain effective communication links with local schools, Head Teachers, and SFA Southeast Region members of staff plus any other relevant parties both within and out with North Edinburgh, spot and take opportunities for partnership work.
  • Play a role in the development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of the annual Extra Time Work Plan.
  • The ability to motivate and engage with primary school aged children and families.
  • Collect and study session plans in advance, adapting where necessary, whilst ensuring they adhere to our Extra Time Coaching Curriculum.
  • Complete risk assessments and ensure provisions run within governing body coaching ratios, complying with Health & Safety policies & safeguarding procedures whilst ensuring all services are delivered in compliance with appropriate policies to protect children and vulnerable adults.
  • Work closely with Extra Time Family Support Officer to measure improved mental health and wellbeing for children, parents, and carers.
  • Continual liaising with other members/managers of the Foundation team to ensure consistency throughout the organisation.
  • Willing to contribute to your own continued professional development by attending organised training courses and researching other appropriate development opportunities.

Essential qualification or experience

  • SFA Childrens Coaching Award (minimum Level 1.3)
  • IT skills including the use of MS Office and Outlook.
  • Experience of working within a sporting environment.
  • Significant knowledge of grassroots planning.
  • Experience of planning, developing, and delivering programmes.

Additional useful experience or skills:

  • Willingness to be flexible around working times/days.
  • Youth Work or sports coaching experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Sports First Aid
  • A degree or equivalent in sports development, coaching or football.
  • Knowledge of the positive impacts of engaging within football and sports.
  • An understanding of the Spartans Community Foundation's vision, strategy and objectives.

Working Requirements

  • 30 hours per week - weekend work required.
  • Fixed term contract - 6 months at £12.60 per hour (National Living Wage)
