Coordinator: West Dunbartonshire Sports Youth Group

Salary: £18 hourly rate (12hrs/wk) Term Time

Temporary for one year

West Dunbartonshire Sports Youth Group (SYG) develops young people aged 14-21 years into skilled leaders, volunteers and sports coaches. The members use sport as a method of gaining specific training, qualifications and valuable life experience to help them both personally and professionally. The group aims to develop the local community by staging events, activities and festivals for children and young people and to promote fun through sport.

You will co-ordinate the activities of the group, developing the young volunteer members.

You will have excellent communication, project management and interpersonal skills and have the ability to cope with a varied workload. In addition, you will have a good understanding of local priorities and have experience of partnership working with various agencies. It is essential that you have extensive experience of working with young people and developing their ideas. It is also desirable that applicants hold an appropriate qualification to HND level and have extensive experience in sports coaching.

This post will be funded for one year with the possibility of extension depending on funding.

Key Accountabilities

  • To support the development of Sports Youth Group (SYG) volunteers, by providing advice and guidance, evaluating performance and providing suitable feedback.

  • To ensure effective marketing and promotion of West Dunbartonshire Sports Youth Group.

  • To deal efficiently with all administration duties related to the SYG.

  • To apply for external funding to effectively develop the SYG and its current/future projects.

  • To work within a set budget and manage any other additional funding that may be awarded to expand the existing project.

  • To report directly to the SYG committee, in particular the chair, secretary and treasurer.

  • To implement appropriate project monitoring and evaluation processes to assist in the completion of progress reports.

  • To plan and deliver high quality sports coaching sessions.

  • To develop and co-ordinate schools holiday sports programmes.

  • To establish and maintain effective partnerships with local, regional and national organisations, including West Dunbartonshire Leisure, Sportscotland, National Governing Bodies.

  • To ensure that all Health and Safety and other legislative requirements are met in the delivery of project activities.

  • To commit to a programme of continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure that the mentoring provided is always of the highest quality.

  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may be allocated should the job change and evolve overtime.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Extensive experience of coaching children in a sporting environment.

  • Experience of working with sports clubs/organisations and partner organisations.

  • Experience of planning and implementing sports development programmes.

  • Experience of co-ordinating volunteers at sporting events.

  • Experience in engaging and developing young people.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Community Sports Leaders programme.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Committed, friendly, enthusiastic and confident manner, with the ability to motivate others.

  • Educated to HND level accompanied with extensive experience of Sports Development programmes.

  • Various National Governing Body Coaching Qualifications.

  • UKCC sports coaching qualification in at least one sport.

  • Flexible approach to working hours at evenings and weekends.

  • Computer literate in several software packages.

Desirable

  • Experience of co-ordinating coach education.

  • Experience of volunteer recruitment processes.

  • Experience of completing external funding applications for sport.

  • Experience of producing reports and achieving project outcomes.

  • Experience of being part of a committee structure.

  • Excellent report writing skills.

  • Budget monitoring skills.

  • Educated to Degree level in a sports related discipline.

  • Full current driving licence.
