Albury Community Sports Hub Project Activator: Sport Aberdeen

Albury Outdoor Sports Centre opened in 1929, became Albury Community Sports Hub (ACSH) in 2011 and incorporated as a charity in 2022. The hub sits in a beautiful, accessible location in the heart of Aberdeen city and offers a variety of outdoor activities, including tennis, pickleball, bowls, putting, croquet and pétanque. As part of sportscotland’s national Community Sports Hub’s network, Sport Aberdeen work in partnership with Albury Community Sports Hub’ volunteer board to maintain and develop the facility.

Albury Community Sports Hub, through funding from sportscotland’s Club Support Fund, are recruiting for a part-time role (fixed term for 3 years). This role is an exciting opportunity for us to grow and prepare for the future. The role will support community involvement and help increase outdoor sports activities for all. The role will be hosted within Sport Aberdeen’s Community Sport Team and work closely to support ACSH.

Through proactive outreach and programme development this role will be key in developing, supporting and strengthening Albury Community Sports Hub (ACSH) and positioning the project for community ownership. The overall remit of the role is around membership engagement and programme development, with a particular focus on:

  • Increasing numbers using ACSH and growing the membership to improve overall financial sustainability

  • Increasing participation among individuals who may face social, economic, physical, mental, or cultural barriers to sport and outdoor activity

  • Engaging with the community, making sure that underrepresented and marginalised groups are included, building trust and connections within the community to serve all those it exists for

  • Creating additional inclusive opportunities that promote equality, diversity and a genuine sense of belonging

  • Strengthening partnerships with local organisations and community groups to meet needs and improve physical and mental wellbeing outcomes across the community

This is an exciting time for the hub, with a tennis court refurbishment recently completed, membership increasing and the 100-year anniversary in 2029. With the support of a proactive board and line management provided by Sport Aberdeen’s Community Sport Team, we are looking for someone:

  1. With good communication skills,

  2. Who understands the impact of sport and physical activity on local communities

  3. Who is motivated to support increased engagement at the venue, to help keep ACSH running over the longer term.
