Active Schools Assistant (Summer of Sport) (4) (Fixed Term)
Dumfries and Galloway Council – location to be discussed on appointment

These posts present an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Active Schools and Community Sport team within the Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing Directorate working 36 hours per week on a fixed term basis until March 2027 in line with the summer of sport investment. This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to support the delivery of the Active Schools programme across identified school clusters within Dumfries and Galloway. The roles involve planning and delivering physical activity opportunities, supporting clubs and events, engaging with children and young people to increase participation, and building positive relationships with schools, partners and local communities. You will help coordinate volunteers and coaches, promote inclusive opportunities, and support the effective organisation and reporting of programme activities in a safe and supportive environment. 

Applicants must be educated to SVQ Level 3 in Sport or Physical Activity elated field or equivalent and have experience working at a similar level in Leisure and Sport, Education, Health or an appropriate field.

You will be able to demonstrate the following experience, skills and personality factors:

  • Ability to plan and deliver safe, fun and inclusive physical activity sessions for children and young people

  • Good organisational skills with the ability to support activities and events

  • Ability to communicate effectively with pupils, staff, parents and partners

  • Ability to motivate and encourage participation in sport and physical activity

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise workload

  • Understanding of health and safety within sport and physical activity settings

  • Enthusiastic, approachable and reliable with a positive attitude

  • Flexible and willing to learn and develop within the role

  • Supportive and cooperative team member with good communication skills
