Academy Coach (Youth Academy): Heart of Midlothian FC

Report to: Head of Youth Academy

Location: Oriam - Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre, Edinburgh, EH14 4AS, and away fixture venues. 

Salary: Competitive salary plus excellent employee benefits.

Hours: Part-time, 12 hours per week.

3 nights training per week, and one weekend matchday. Days and timings subject to change depending on the Academy training and matchday schedule.

Heart of Midlothian Football Club is a Scottish Premiership Professional Football Club based in Edinburgh with Elite Academy Status. We have an exciting opportunity for an Academy Coach to work within our Youth Academy.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Elite Football Academy coach who is passionate about developing talented young players. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Head of Youth Academy and wider Academy staff to support in delivering The Hearts Way philosophy, creating a positive and supportive environment where players can maximise their potential.

Academy Coach Responsibilities:

  • Coach an assigned Boys Youth Academy age group (U13–U17) at training sessions and matchdays.

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality, engaging coaching sessions.

  • Implement and promote The Hearts Way coaching philosophy and curriculum.

  • Monitor player development in line with Individual Player Development Plans.

  • Provide regular, constructive feedback to players and their parents/carers in accordance with Academy review processes.

  • Reflect on coaching practice and continually seek opportunities to develop professionally.

  • Foster a safe, positive and inclusive environment that supports both player development and wellbeing.

  • Work collaboratively with Academy colleagues and multidisciplinary staff to support player progression.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Requirements:

  • UEFA Elite Youth A Licence (or currently enrolled on the course).

  • Experience coaching within an Elite or high-performance youth football environment.

  • Able to evidence the Legal right to work in the UK.

  • Valid UK driving license.

  • Candidates must be available for three midweek evening training sessions and one weekend matchday each week, in line with the Academy schedule, and able to travel reliably to Oriam (Edinburgh) and away fixture venues.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organisational and planning skills.

  • Passion for football and developing players.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
