Our work

Everyone will have access to a network of quality places where they can get involved in sport.

Our work in this area focuses on developing an accessible network of places with the right quality and capacity to meet the needs of sport.

To do that, we:

  • work with partners to plan strategically and invest in facilities at all levels from school and community sport through to club and performance sport, where the need and impact is greatest and the outcomes are clear.
  • use our statutory planning function to protect and improve places where sport happens.

Planning and design

sportscotland provides highly specialised expertise on the planning, design, construction and management of sports facilities for the benefit of Scottish sport. We can offer support at every stage of the facility development process whether we are providing financial assistance or not.

If you are involved in the development of a sporting facility, and would like to seek guidance on issues related to the planning, design, construction or management of the facility, you can contact a member of our facilities development team through our contacts page.
