Who is your female role model in sport?
Serena Williams as I really admire her strength, ambition and attitude towards sport. She is a powerful and resilient athlete who, despite experiencing setbacks and barriers, continues to power through and inspire.
Why did you want to join the Fit for Girls programme?
I Joined the FFG programme during my time as a YPSP member during 2018/2020 as part of the Women and Girls working group. I have always been so so passionate about female participation in PEPAS - the FFG programme has allowed me to work so closely with such passionate mentors and female advocates (fellow FFG tutors, PE teachers, local ambassadors etc) to identify common barriers which limit female participation and how with education, encouragement and an abundance of resources we can offer valuable solutions to combat these barriers and limitations.
What do you want to achieve as a Fit for Girls Tutor?
To increase girls’ participation and enjoyment within sport and physical activity. Whether I help to inspire 3 or 300 new girls to get involved, I will be equally delighted. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to reducing barriers and providing solutions to increase involvement therefore we all must work together, collaborate and share resources and keep the momentum going; we can make sport and physical activity a place where girls feel excited, encouraged and engaged!
Your message to girls wanting to get involved in sport:
Take the leap! There are far more ways of being involved in sport than just participating. Have conversations, meet like-minded people, and discover what YOU are PASSIONATE about!
