Senior Greenkeeper – Golf It!

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Golf It! team in Glasgow as Senior Greenkeeper, reporting to the Golf Course Manager and working as part of the Greenkeeping team.

Duties will include:

  • Deputise in the absence of the Deputy Course Manager, providing direction and guidance to the greenkeeping team and acting as an escalation point when required.
  • Supervise the greenkeeping team and work with them to:
  • Implement daily course set-up requirements involving mowing greens, tees, fairways and roughs, changing holes, preparing bunkers and tees.
  • Implement all cultivation operations including aeration, top dressing, scarification, sward refinement to all playing surfaces.
  • Apply all fertiliser, supplements and turf protection products accurately in accordance with legislation, best practice.
  • Ensure that the equipment cooling system is working at all times; refill fuel and check oil daily; perform daily equipment cleans and report equipment problems or failures to the Course Mechanic for swift resolution.
  • Operate and maintain Toro Irrigation system to ensure playing surfaces are irrigated
  • When carrying our course maintenance, operate equipment as directed observing safe-operating procedures at all times.
  • Work with external community groups and project partners on collaboration activities and initiatives, when required and in line with the Golf It! aims.

This is a full time role, 35 hours per week, spread over 7 days, working on a rota-based system to include weekends.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and attributes:

  • NVQ Level 3, or equivalent, in Sports Turf Management, or related discipline.
  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates.
  • Full, clean driving license.
  • CS30 and CS31 chainsaw certificates.
  • Significant previous experience working in a greenkeeping position.
  • Construction experience.
  • Experience of irrigation maintenance, repair and usage.
  • Experience of community engagement and working with local volunteer groups.
  • Proficient greenkeeping skills and agronomic knowledge and a reasonable understanding of Health & Safety, COSHH, and other legislative matters.
  • Experience of community engagement and working with local volunteer groups.
  • Member of BIGGA and other relevant trade organisations.
  • A keen interest and empathy with the natural world and its relationship with golf course management and preparation.
  • Ability to Embrace novel solutions, innovations and technology.
  • A confident communicator and capable of inspiring strong collaboration within the greenkeeping team, wider organisation and external partners.
  • Exceptional organisation and planning skills.
  • Ability to mentor, lead, inspire and motivate a team.
  • A hands-on work ethic.
  • Committed to developing themselves through training and CPD.
  • Flexible and willing to work outside normal working hours when necessary.

The ideal candidate will also have experience of volunteering at golf championships, but please note that this is not an essential requirement for this role.
