£25 per hour payment, plus expenses, mileage etc.

Multi-sports Summer Camp

Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Lead Coach to oversee our multi-sports summer camp in the Ayrshire towns of West Kilbride and Ardrossan. The summer camps will be free to all children in Primary 1 – 7 and will include a wide programme of sports, health and wellbeing activities as well as a breakfast club, lunch and healthy snacks for all. Activities will run for the whole day, from 8.15am – 5.30pm.

The Lead Coach will be responsible for overseeing a team of volunteer coaches and ensuring a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for all children who attend. This individual will be a key figure in fostering a positive environment and promoting the physical and personal development of our participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Programme Co-ordination:
    • Oversee the programme that includes golf, tennis, yolates, drama and other activities that promote health and wellbeing.
    • To create session plans for each individual activity within the schedule to ensure that all coaches and volunteers know what will be delivered.
    • Adapt activities to accommodate different age groups, skill levels and abilities, ensuring all attendees are engaged and challenged.
    • To review session activity and schedule and feedback to the summer camp development team any improvements that can be implemented.
    • Liaise with the catering provider and co-ordinate the consumption of breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks.
    • Ensure all paperwork (registration, medical conditions and emergency contacts, photographic consent etc) is complete, available and stored safely during all sessions.
    • Report daily participation numbers to summer camp development team and any absences so contact can be made with parents.
  2. Leadership and Supervision:
    • Mentor, support and supervise a team of volunteer coaches throughout the day ensuring that they are working with the children in an engaging and fun manner.
    • Act as a role model promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
  3. Participant Safety and Well-being:
    • To be responsible for the safety and well-being of all participants by carrying out risk assessments before each session and ensuring that everyone adheres to rules, the health and safety policy of the SJS&HT
    • Address any behavioural or safety issues promptly and effectively.
    • Provide first aid and emergency care as needed.
    • Prepare and submit accident reports as required.
  4. Communication:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with SJS&HT Trustees and administrator, parents, and guardians regarding participants’ progress and any concerns.
    • Capture images of the session (where permissions allow) for sharing on social media by the summer camp development team.
  5. Equipment and Venue Management:
    • Responsible for ensuring all equipment is suitable and in proper working order to prevent any possible issues regarding health and safety and report issues to the summer camp development team.
    • Manage the inventory and storage of sports equipment, assisting in the setting up of each activity station with equipment required.
    • Co-ordinate the tidying up of venues and ensure they are clean and organised.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification:
    • A minimum of a Level 2 coaching qualification in either Golf or Tennis.
    • Current First Aid certification required.
    • Have undergone some form of safeguarding training or qualification
    • Have undergone some form of equality and inclusion training .(D)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience in a youth sports setting.
    • Proven track record of overseeing sports programs for children and young people.
    • Experience leading or supporting volunteers.
    • Experience liaising with facility operators and venues to ensure a smooth working relationship with the host facility.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organisational and planning skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Passionate about sports and working with children and young people.
    • Energetic, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
    • Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive camp environment.

Summer Camp Dates:

Sessions will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays over 4 weeks (2 weeks in each venue).

Dates of delivery will be confirmed based on staff availability. On applying for the role, please state your availability for all Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in July and August.
