Hours Part-time, 12 hours per week.

Two training sessions per week, plus a weekend matchday, with exact days and times dependent on the Academy schedule.

Heart of Midlothian Football Club is a Premiership Scottish Professional Football Club based in Edinburgh with Elite Academy Status. The Club are looking to recruit a Foundation Academy Lead to work within the Girl’s Academy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for organising and overseeing the Girls Foundation Academy programme. Working closely with the Head of Girls Academy and Head of Academy Recruitment, you will onboard, develop, and evaluate young talent, ensuring they reach their full potential.

This is the perfect role for a candidate that is passionate about training and developing talented young players and has previous experience in a similar role within an Elite Academy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Foundation programme coaches in delivering sessions and evaluating players through both informal chats and formal reviews with parents/carers.
  • Lead coaching sessions and game coverage for the Foundation programme.
  • Understand signed Academy player profiles and group succession plans to identify recruitment priorities to support effective recruitment with the Head of Academy Recruitment.
  • Keep accurate records of session attendance and player assessments using the Academy Online system, including introductory consent and medical engagement forms.
  • Ensure all assigned kit for the Foundation Academy is properly maintained.
  • Attend Academy meetings to ensure effective departmental communication, planning, and evaluation.
  • Liaise with grassroots clubs and parents/carers of identified players, inviting them to the Academy as trialists.
  • Create a positive environment for player development.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

Candidates must hold or be actively working towards one of the following Licenses:

  • SFA Advanced Children’s License
  • UEFA Youth B License
  • UEFA B License

UEFA Elite Youth A License (desirable).

Proven experience in coaching and player development, ideally within an Elite Football Academy.

Previous experience in a Girls performance environment (desirable).

Can reliably commute to Edinburgh and other locations as per the needs of the position.

Legal right to work in the UK.

Valid UK driving licence.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong work ethic with a passion for fostering a positive and supportive environment for young female athletes.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Excellent timekeeping and the ability to manage own time effectively.
  • A high standard of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Confident IT user with basic computer skills, particularly relating to Microsoft Word and Excel.

The role will have regular contact with children, and it is therefore required by law to have a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check through Disclosure Scotland as a condition of employment.
