Who we are

We are Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland - Scotland’s governing body for waterski and wakeboard activities, funded by SportScotland and the National Lottery. We fully support the Scottish Government’s Active Scotland Outcomes Framework.

Scotland’s geography provides some of the most globally renowned, stunning backdrops for outdoor activity and watersports. With over 30,000 freshwater lochs and 6,000 miles of coastline, there are many wonderful opportunities to enjoy the thrills and challenges offered by waterski and wakeboard - nothing beats getting out onto the water and focusing your mind on just you and the beautiful outdoors.

Overview

This is an exciting new post that will be central to increasing waterski and wakeboard coaching expertise and capacity across Scotland, developing participant development pathways, and encouraging participation by as wide a customer base as possible. The role will revolve around designing and delivering coaching, training, and development pathways for coaches, drivers, and participants at clubs and venues throughout Scotland and supporting great waterski and wakeboarding experiences across Scotland. We are the Scottish Governing Body and want to breathe new life back into the sport; the development coach will be key to achieving that. We have recently seen a number of new people with a raft of skills and experience from different backgrounds join the team. The successful applicant will be working with an exciting, dynamic, and motivated team of the Board of Directors (voluntary), a Chief Operating Officer, and a Development Officer, as well as the management staff, volunteers, and participants from clubs and venues throughout Scotland.

This is a national field-based role that involves travel across Scotland and occasionally the rest of the UK. The main base for the post is the Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland HQ at the Town Loch National Training Site in Dunfermline. Home work will also be available when appropriate. This is a role that will provide excitement, challenge, and a huge sense of purpose for the right candidate. Playing a key role in realising our vision: a community of people from all walks of life and backgrounds participating in our sports, having fun, sharing successes, and developing into who they want to be.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create activity programmes based on stakeholder needs which support the ongoing development of the sport.
  • Plan, organise and deliver quality coaching and training programmes in clubs for participants, drivers and coaches.
  • Support and mentor coaches and drivers to deliver high quality participant experiences.
  • Support coaches and drivers to improve their knowledge about developments in the sport and approaches to coaching are up to date.
  • Plan, promote and implement national competitions and tournaments - and assist clubs with the design and delivery of “backyard” competitions.
  • Support the Development Officer to design and implement a volunteer pathway programme and support clubs to recruit new volunteers.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on initiatives and projects.

Knowledge & Experience

  • An experienced waterskier and wakeboarder.
  • An experienced waterski and wakeboard boat driver.
  • Experience of design and delivery of sports coaching and training.
  • Understanding of sports or community development.
  • Marketing and promotion - including the use of social media.
  • Partnership development, stakeholder and customer engagement.
  • Demonstrable experience of customer relations.
  • Grant funding applications, fundraising and budget reporting.

Key Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management
  • Key performance indicator reporting.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft applications and social media.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, work on own initiative and know when to seek guidance.

  • You will be highly organised with good attention to detail, able to not just follow process but to develop what is already in place and constantly improve delivery.

Terms of Appointment

  • 20 hours/week. Flexible working patterns will be considered. The nature of the role may on occasion require working in excess of these hours to ensure core objectives are achieved.
  • The salary will be £24,000-28,000 pro rata dependent upon skills and experience, 33 days holiday per annum (advancing to 38 days after 2 years’ service) pro rata (statutory days and bank holidays included). Contributory pension scheme.
  • PVG disclosure check will be required for successful candidates and the job is dependent on suitable references.
