B Team Performance Analyst: Heart of Midlothian FC

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week to be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the B team schedule.

Heart of Midlothian is a Scottish Premiership Football Club and an Edinburgh institution with a proud heritage dating back to 1874. The Club have an exciting opportunity for a Performance Analyst to join our B Team who have been competing within the Scottish Lowland League for 2 seasons, finishing second in the 2023/24 season.

The successful candidate will work closely with the B Team Manager and coaches to ensure all performance analysis services within the B Team run efficiently for players, coaches, and all staff. The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working within a performance analysis provision within elite football, with a high level of tactical understanding and knowledge of football.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on all aspects of the B Team analysis process (pre-match, live and post-match) with delivery to both players and coaches.
  • Film all B Team home fixtures in line with governing body criteria and build relationships with other Clubs to ensure sharing of match footage.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the performance analysis framework, to deliver effective insights that contribute to the success of the B Team on the pitch.
  • Provide regular video-based feedback to the team and individual players.
  • Provide objective support and feedback to coaches.
  • Assist in the progress of the analysis department, working closely with our first team Performance Analysts, to help achieve both team results and player development.
  • Take an active role in furthering the development of analysis within the Club.
  • Undertake larger scale projects into tactical trends within the Scottish football.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working within elite football.
  • Experience of using industry standard products and software for coding and video telestration.
  • Previous use of industry standard hardware such as tripod or portable cameras.
  • Experience working with scripting or coding software such as R studio or Python (Desirable).
  • MSc in Sports Performance Analysis or related subject (Desirable).
  • SFA Coaching Badges or equivalent (Desirable).
  • Candidates must be able to evidence legal right to work in the UK.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrate a high level of understanding of the current state of Scottish football (competition trends, managers, and players, etc) with specific application to the Scottish Lowland League.
  • Demonstrate a high level of tactical understanding and knowledge of the game.
  • Proficient using Hudl Sportscode to code matches and database events.
  • Proficient using Mac iOS products, such as Keynote.
  • An understanding of current trends within data analytics in football.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills to effectively manage time and balance workloads.
  • High levels of attention to detail and maintenance of standards.
  • Proactive attitude and drive to always be improving whilst staying on top of improvements and developments within widening performance analysis sphere.
  • Committed to professional development and self-motivation.
