Fit for Girls is flexible to suit school, club and community settings. The process is:
· Local authorities, Scottish governing bodies (SGB) or national partners recognise the need to improve their provision for girls and young women and commit to empowering them as part of this process.
· Local/national partners register interest
· sportscotland project lead sets up a Teams call with local/national partner along with sportscotland partnership manager to discuss next steps, expectations, and timeline
· Local/national partners recruit a core group of girls as Fit for Girls leaders. The approach local partners who have engaged in Fit for Girls have taken is to recruit/identify a group of girls from across their high schools and formed a Fit for Girls group. SGBs who have engaged have looked at a similar model with girls represented from across their clubs. Recognise there is a lot of local leadership opportunities and partners may not need a new leadership group formed but existing leaders having a focus on girls and women.
· Local/national partners identify adult mentors (members of the PEPAS workforce) who will support the Fit for Girls leaders.
· Local/national partners register for workshop
· Partner lead/mentors run their own introductory session with the girls before they attend the Fit for Girls workshops. This enables the girls to get to know each other and gain an insight into their potential role as local influencers/leaders.
· The girls (accompanied by their mentors) take part in part 1 Fit for Girls workshop. This is a two-hour, interactive, session, which can be delivered in person or online led by our Fit for Girls tutors.
· Prior to the second session, the girls do a takeaway task: prepare their personal stories. They may do this independently or with their mentors’ support.
· The girls (and mentors) take part in the part 2 Fit for Girls workshop. This is usually a month after the first session. Again, it is a two-hour, interactive, session led by our Fit for Girls tutors. Girls complete an online evaluation reflecting on the Fit for Girls workshops and commitments to take forward. The survey includes equality, diversity and inclusion questions.
· Following part 2 workshop, the girls and their mentors work together to further develop and implement a local action plan. Typically, this involves the Fit for Girls leaders consulting with a wider group of girls to identify their barriers and solutions to being active. This insight helps to shape the local plan.
· sportscotland to follow up with local/national partner lead within 9 months of completing Fit for Girls workshops to understand impact following the workshops.
· The Fit for Girls leaders and mentors complete impact survey as part of the evaluation process.
