sportscotland is committed to Fair Work First.

Fair Work First is the Scottish Government's flagship policy surrounding high quality and fair work, and workforce diversity in Scotland’s labour market through applying “fair work criteria” to funding and procurement being awarded within the public sector.

sportscotland is the national agency for sport in Scotland. Our vision is an active Scotland where everyone benefits from sport. Essential to achieving this vision is through the way we treat our team and conduct our business. This is supported by our commitment to Fair Work First.

Living Wage

  • sportscotland is an accredited Real Living Wage employer.

Effective Voice

  • sportscotland are committed to fostering an environment where every voice matters. We prioritise open dialogue and invite feedback, where it is relevant to do so.
  • We recognise Trade Union membership and we consult with our Trade Union colleagues on key issues on a regular basis.
  • We directly engage with our staff through surveys and provide opportunities for transparent discussions with our senior management.

Workforce development

  • sportscotland believes that investing in our team is paramount and are committed to workforce development and continually assessing our organisational training needs.
  • We support learning at an individual, team and organisation level.
  • We support CPD (continuing professional development) for all staff, including maintaining technical training and certification requirements for specialists and various personal development opportunities for softer skills.
  • We also offer wellbeing related training, including mindfulness workshops and menopause awareness sessions as part of our commitment to wellbeing.

Zero hour contracts

  • sportscotland do not inappropriately use zero hours contracts.
  • We have a small number of staff on casual contracts. These staff have enhanced employee terms and conditions.

Diversity and inclusion

  • sportscotland are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels seen, valued and respected.
  • We have introduced a trial “wellbeing hour” to improving the health and wellbeing of our staff at work. This allows staff to take an hour of time from their regular working week to undertake activities that will improve their own physical or mental wellbeing.
  • We have appropriate policies and training available to staff and managers, where relevant, on equalities matters.
  • We report on the gender pay gap.

Flexible and family friendly working

  • sportscotland understands the value of work-life-balance and offers flexible and family friendly working practices for all workers from day one.
  • We offer enhanced working conditions to all staff in relation to annual leave; flexi leave; sick pay and time off for parents (ie maternity leave) that go well above the statutory minimum.
  • We recognise the contribution our staff make to the sporting world and provide additional time off to those representing Scotland in sporting competitions.
  • We have dedicated support and resources accessible to all employees.

Fire and re-hire

  • sportscotland opposes the use of “fire and re-hire” practices.
  • We will undertake full and meaningful negotiations with our people and Trade Union colleagues when making any changes to our employment terms and conditions.
