Gaining skills and confidence

The first step to coaching is often to become involved as an assistant and gain experience under the direct supervision of a more qualified coach. You do not need to have a qualification to assist, but your deployer will have minimum standards which may include the opportunity for you to attend a local introductory course in the sport or activity you wish to volunteer or a Scottish Governing Body coaching course depending on the level at which you wish to coach. Attending some introductory training is a great way to build confidence and develop the skills and knowledge to progress your coaching competence. It also a great way to meet like-minded people, starting out on their coaching journey.

Speak to your deployer (link back to deployer list as above) to find out if there are any introductory training opportunities relevant to the skills you want to develop.
