Q&A with Finlay
What has been your highlight during your time as a YA?
If I were to choose one highlight it would certainly be meeting and talking with the Scottish Minister of sport Maree Todd at last year's Young Ambassador conference in Aberdeen.
Why did you apply to be part of the YA Delivery Team?
I originally applied to be a YA Delivery team member because I wanted to continue my journey as part of the YA programme and give new YA's the same experience that inspired and motivated me the year before. I applied again this year after seeing how much I gained from the team last year not to mention the amazing people I met and memories I made along the way.
What advice would you give to a young person considering Young Ambassadors?
Just go for it. Even if you are slightly nervous, (I certainly was), the YA programme is so rewarding and really makes you feel like you are making a difference, I promise you won't regret it.
What is your favourite sport?
I have gone through many different sports in my life from competing for Scotland in trampolining to Volleyball competitions at my school, but right now I would definitely say it is Athletics. I've always enjoyed running but in the past couple of years I have taken it up competitively which I am really enjoying.
What is your proudest achievement (outside of Young Ambassadors)?
I would probably say competing for Scotland as I faced many barriers in getting to this stage. However I'm also very proud of other volunteering positions I have held like being Aberdeen's Youth Climate Change Vice President a role that the YA programme definitely played a part in helping me achieve.
What are your future aspirations?
I have yet to decide what I would like to do in the future but I am confident that whether it be inside or outside my job, sport will always be a major part of my life.
