Q&A with Rebecca

What has been your highlight as you time as a YA?

During my time as a YA there has been so many highlights, one of my favourites has been the organising and running of a Comic Relief event for my school. I really enjoyed seeing so many staff and pupils taking part in sport and raising money for charity at the same time! Another highlight for me would be supporting the delivery of the Fit for Girls workshop at the P&K ‘Gie it Laldy’ event, breaking down the barriers surrounding girls in sport. And then using that experience to run my own Fit For Girls workshop at my school to identify the barriers girls face in my school in particular. It was great to see so many girls participating in sport and having fun!

What are you most looking forward to as being part of YADT?

I am really looking forward to meeting new people, who share the same passion and love for sport as I do! Also, working as a team to deliver conferences all across Scotland and meeting the new YA’s.

What skills would you like to learn or develop during your time as a YA Delivery Team member?

I would like to develop my public speaking skills, my leadership skills and build on my confidence, this would then support me in my role as a member of the YA Delivery Team.

What advice would you give to a young person considering Young Ambassadors?

Go for it! It is such a great opportunity to inspire young people to take part in sport and you can make a huge difference to sport in your school. It can lead to so many fantastic opportunities, where you get to meet lots of inspiring people on your journey! You’ll get to share your passion with others and gain so many valuable skills from the experience!

Proudest achievement (outside of Young Ambassadors)

My proudest achievement would be qualifying for the Scottish Schools swimming finals and also qualifying for SNAGS over many years!

Future aspirations:

I hope to go to university to study medicine and eventually specialise in pediatrics.
