Q&A with Nicole

What has been your highlight during your time as a YA?:

During my time as a Young Ambassador for the 2021/2022 programme, my highlight was delivering sports sessions to the cluster primary schools of St Matthew’s Academy and promoting sports throughout my school. Over the course of the year I delivered various after school clubs and worked closely with the Physical Education department in my school to promote participation in sport. Involvement in this programme allowed me to provide young people with the opportunity to participate in sport.

What are you most looking forward to as part of the YA Delivery Team?:

As part of the Young Ambassador Delivery Team, I am most looking forward to meeting new people and inspiring the Young Ambassadors across Scotland for the 2023/2024 programme. I am also looking forward to travelling across Scotland to deliver conferences to the new Young Ambassadors.

What skills would you like to learn or develop during your time as a YA Delivery Team member?

During my time as a Young Ambassador Delivery Team member, I would like to further develop my communication, confidence and leadership skills as these skills are essential to my development as a coach.

What advice would you give to a young person considering Young Ambassadors?:

My advice to a young person considering becoming a Young Ambassador is to show an interest in the programme and take the opportunity if it arises. The Young Ambassadors programme is an amazing experience and a great opportunity to become involved in. The programme has allowed me to provide young people with the opportunity to participate in sports through the sessions that I have delivered within local primary schools. By delivering these sessions I have been able to gain coaching experience whilst developing transferable skills.

What is your proudest achievement (outside of Young Ambassadors)?

My proudest achievement outside of Young Ambassadors is receiving a Lux Mundi during my sixth year of academy due to my leadership skills. Over the course of the academic year I was involved in various different projects that allowed me to become recognised for my leadership skills.

What are your future aspirations?

I hope to achieve the required grades by June 2024 that will enable me to progress into year three of sports coaching and development at university. After the 5 year period of studying this course I hope to pursue a career in the sporting industry, hopefully as a teacher of Physical Education.
