Q&A with Beth

What has been your highlight during your time as a YA?

It is really difficult for me to choose one stand out highlight during my time as a YA, but I have thoroughly enjoyed building strong friendships with my YA partner and pupils within my school. I loved being a leader and a role model to the younger years within my school as it inspired them to get involved in sport. It showed them that sport is for everyone, and everyone can find a home in sport!

What are you most looking forward to as part of the YA Delivery Team?

I was extremely fortunate to be a part of the YACDT last year and loved every bit of it which is why I have returned for another year! I am really looking forward to delivering the conferences again and getting to pass on my knowledge and experiences to the new YA’s so they can ensure sport is an inclusive and fun environment in their school!

What skills would you like to learn or develop during your time as a YA Delivery Team member?

This year, I would like to further develop my confidence, whether that be through delivering the conferences or just talking to the other delivery team members. I would also like to improve on my organisational skills and time-management on the day of the conferences!

What advice would you give to a young person considering Young Ambassadors?

My advice to anyone who is thinking about applying to the program would be to just go for it! Sport really is for everyone. You don’t have to be the best athlete in the world to belong in sport and I think if you have a passion for sport and believe in the benefits that it has, then the YA program is perfect for you. I promise you you will not regret it because it is an experience that will change your life and you will develop priceless skills.

What is your proudest achievement (outside of Young Ambassadors)?

My proudest achievement, outside of the delivery team, would have to be trialling for my regional and then national rugby team this year. I was very grateful to be selected for the regional team as I got to travel to places like Inverness and Stirling for matches. I also made so many friends along the way who I will keep in contact with! Unfortunately, I didn’t get selected for the national team, but I was still extremely proud of myself for trying.

What are your future aspirations?

In the future, I would love to travel and explore the world. I would like to visit places across Asia and Europe like Thailand and Norway. In terms of my career, I would like to get into the media industry and either become a producer or presenter for the BBC.
