Q&A with Angel

What has been your highlight during your time as a YA?

During my time as a YA, I organised a sports fair in my school to encourage pupils (especially new S1s) to join the many extracurricular sports clubs we have on offer. I really enjoyed working with teachers and fellow pupils to organise the event and it was such a rewarding experience to see the amazing turnout we had with lots of new signups!

What are you most looking forward to as part of the YA Delivery Team?
I am most looking forward to meeting the other YAs from around the country to deliver the conference. I think it will be a very exciting experience to work with like minded people who share a love for sports and to inspire the next generation of YAs.

What skills would you like to learn or develop during your time as a YA Delivery Team member?
I would like to develop is my communication skills. I feel that by being involved in the conferences, I can improve my public speaking skills which will be useful for the future.

What advice would you give to a young person considering Young Ambassadors?

Don’t be afraid to go for it! It was a new experience for me and I ended up loving every part of the role. It is a chance for you to make an impact for the pupils at your school and for people in your community when it comes to sport. Being a YA gives you the amazing opportunity to share your love for sport to those around you and to act as a voice for young people. If you think sport has made a positive impact in your life, now is your time to pay it forward!

What is your proudest achievement (outside of Young Ambassadors)?

My proudest achievement was when I was awarded my diploma in music earlier this year. After 9 years of taking keyboard lessons and doing graded exams, I was able to sit my diploma exam and pass with an Upper Distinction. It was a very proud moment for me as I had put so many years of effort into it and it paid off well!

What are your future aspirations?

In the future I hope to go to University and study a course that is in line with STEM. I also hope to continue playing sports and improve my playing ability in basketball. I wish to join sports clubs at University to continually engage my love for sports and hope to be able to organise sports events there as well.
