Q&A with Abbie

What has been your highlight during your time as a YA?

Being able to give back to my local community by providing opportunities for everyone to partake in sport and physical activity. As well as seeing young people becoming the best versions of themselves by stepping out of their comfort zones and trying new things!

What are you most looking forward to as part of the YA Delivery Team?

Definitely meeting new people. Building positive relationships and creating friendships with the other members of the team, as well as pushing myself outside my comfort zone.

What skills would you like to learn or develop during your time as a YA Delivery Team member?

Speaking up during group discussions. I tend to find that I shy away from voicing my opinion in group setting in fear of being wrong or judged, so speaking up for what I believe in and making sure my voice is heard. I would also like to develop my communication skills when working with both large and small groups of people.

What advice would you give to a young person considering Young Ambassadors?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve been given is “you don’t need to believe your dreams; you just need to follow them”. If this is something you feel passionate about go for it! This role gives you an opportunity to make a significant difference in the health, wellbeing & aspirations of the children you work with. So, take and enjoy your opportunity to be that difference in someone’s life.

What is your proudest achievement (outside of Young Ambassadors)?

Captaining my schools netball team and playing in the Fife schools final!

What are your future aspirations?

My goal is to continue on to university and to help people, ideally using sport as the tool for positive change in people’s lives.
