Each secondary school in Midlothian has between 2 and 4 Young Ambassadors, all aiming to increase sport participation and overcome barriers to inclusive participation.
After the conference in September, the YAs wanted to meet as a Midlothian group to share ideas and updates on what they have achieved so far, and to support and learn from each other. This has helped empower and motivate them and brought them an identity as young leaders/decision makers within Midlothian and their schools.
A big focus for the Midlothian this term has been on the introduction of the ‘Kit for All’ project. The YAs are driving this project forward and each school is at a different stage in setting up and collecting donations. Their long-term aim is to have a donation point and kit store within each of the high school/community centres in Midlothian, with the aim of making sport and physical activity more accessible and better for the environment. They also plan to work on a primary school road show to promote and increase awareness.
Other projects they have driven within schools:
- leading and promoting clubs
- interhouse competition
- celebrating sporting achievements
- P7 sports council - transition into S1
- Active Boys and Girls events
- training and development
