YAs Laura and Katie have hit the ground running. They were keen to highlight Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week at the beginning of October and delivered sessions in their feeder primary schools. They offered each primary school a lunchtime girls-only sessions where the girls could participate in a dance workout and dodgeball. The schools were delighted to accept the offer and the YAs came up with their own dance routine and their own dodgeball rules.

At each session they had a short discussion with pupils about the importance of sport and physical activity for girls and asked them to nominate a dodgeball “Girl of the Day”, encouraging them to think about fair play, teamwork and helping others.

Across the schools, over 100 P5 and P6 girls participated in their lunchtime sessions. One P6 asked “Can we do that again tomorrow?!”.

Given its success, our YAs have organised an afterschool Active Girls Festival in November to allow primary school girls in other year groups to be active.
