University of St Andrews: Director of Tennis

Saints Sport

AD4711SB

Salary: £33,797 - £40,322 per annum

In line with the growth and success of our tennis club and tennis performance programme, we are seeking to appoint a qualified, experienced and highly motivated Director of Tennis on a full time basis.

You will work with a group of dedicated student athletes who are committed to success in both their academic and athletic pursuits. You will complement our other six sport specific directors and work closely with colleagues in Saints Sport, specifically within the Performance Programme, Strength and Conditioning, Performance Analysis and Sports Development, as well as the student club committee. The successful candidate will lead the tennis programme to develop tennis at all levels, from beginner/participation level to elite/performance for both the men’s and women’s squads.

The Tennis Club is one of the largest sports clubs at The University of St Andrews, with over 200 members. Supported and recognised by the LTA and Tennis Scotland, we run an inspirational and inclusive programme that allows students to reach their potential and ambitions as players, coaches and leaders, providing playing opportunities for all levels of ability and aspiration. Our women’s 1st team currently compete in the BUCS Premier League but our ambition is to go much higher in both women’s and men’s competition, within and out with student sport. Our vision is to create a world-class tennis experience for our students to match their academic experience. Candidates should therefore have the ability to recruit elite student tennis players at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In order to support our best players, applicants should hold, or be working towards, an LTA level 4 coaching qualification or equivalent.

Out with student tennis, Saints Sport run a comprehensive community programme, consisting of individual and group lesson lessons and children’s courses to maximise usage of our four indoor and four outdoor courts. Candidates should therefore have substantial experience of planning and delivering coaching programmes to a range of abilities, ideally in a higher education environment and catering for elite level players. A background knowledge of commercial tennis operations and initiatives in order to advise and support our Operational and Sport Development teams is also required.
