Key Objective: To manage the internal administration and accounting processes to ensure accuracy, completeness and effectiveness of internal controls and financial records.

Reporting to Joint reporting to Finance Trustee and Business & Ops Manager

Liaises with All SCFA Staff, customers, vendors and SCFA Trustees

Salary £20,000 to £24,000 - depending on experience

Overview

The Spartans Community Football Academy is looking for an Assistant Accountant to help manage the finances of the Charity and a second limited company. The role is predominantly based at the Academy, 94 Pilton Drive, Edinburgh EH5 2HF but there is some scope for working from home [when pre-approved] and there is some flexibility around hours. The role includes management of an assistant and may require some ad-hoc office management support as well.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and periodically review / update all financial administration processes and procedures ensuring that all controls remain effective and are being adhered to as intended.
  • Review and sign off weekly financial control schedules for receipts, banking, purchase ledger and petty cash.
  • Payroll processing
  • HRMC returns for VAT and Gift Aid
  • Accurate day to day recording and reconciliation of all financial transactions into books of record. [Note this process is largely automated through the accounting system].
  • Monthly customer invoice generation and distribution. Aged debt analysis and customer follow up on outstanding payments with escalation of issues
  • Monthly review and completeness check of customer ‘bookings’ system.
  • Monthly trial balance for two entities.
  • Support the production of quarterly management accounts and annual financial statements.
  • Support the statutory audit of the two entities.
  • Internal reporting of expenditure against restricted grant funds received
  • Work with the Business & Operations Manager to review and develop robust non-financial administration process to support the day to day operations of the Charity.
  • Ad hoc support to Business & Operations Manager, Finance Trustee and Chief Executive.

Skills Required

  • Proven bookkeeping experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of Sage, Xero or other small business accounting software.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Show initiative and is self-motivated.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to work as part of a team.
  • Display a positive can-do approach.
  • Receptive and listens to others.

  • Experience: Accounting: 3 years (Preferred)

Working Requirements

  • ~37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day Monday to Friday but flexible
