Digital Support Volunteer: SALSC

The Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC) has an exciting opportunity available for a Digital Support Volunteer.  The role will support SALSC’s National Development Officer (NDO) update and maintain the SALSC website and social media channels. 

Applications close Wednesday 31st January 2018 at 12 Noon.

Hours Per Week Approximately 3 to 5.


  • To upload and maintain the content of the SALSC website.
  • Maintain and upload content to the SALSC Facebook page and Twitter account.
  • Write and edit content for articles to be published online.
  • Update the NDO regularly on analytics information, evidencing increased engagement with online platforms.
  • Research Local Sports Councils websites and social media channels – creating a report on findings and make recommendations to the SALSC NDO.


Home based.  You will be required to meet with the NDO at the sportscotland offices, Caledonia House, South Gyle, Edinburgh and will be in regular e-mail or telephone contact during your volunteer hours.

Training Information

SALSC will give you information on the work required and inform you of necessary policies and procedures you will be required to follow.  You will receive support from the NDO and delegated Director and work with them on the work required.

You will have the necessary skills to undertake this role, as a key volunteer within SALSC you will have the opportunity to attend courses as part of sportscotlands Learning and Development programme for free, this will be in your own time.

Travel Costs Reimbursed

Bus/tram/train or mileage expenses to travel to sportscotland offices in Caledonia House or attendance at additional meetings or events will be reimbursed.


  • Build your online portfolio in a voluntary capacity additional to paid or other voluntary experiences.
  • Gain a reference for future employment with satisfactory commitment to SALSCs requirements.
  • Actively improve and increase the online engagement with all SALSC’s online channels.
  • A level of autonomy involved allowing you to bring your ideas and creativity to the role.

Skills Required

  • A knowledge of PHP Programming is required as is Search Engine Optimisation for website development.
  • A knowledge of older Content Management System due to the age of our existing website.
  • Good knowledge of social media platforms and analytics – Facebook and Twitter.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of producing written materials for online publishing.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Motivated and pro-active.
  • Creative with an interest in online development and social media.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and individually.
  • Good time management skills.
