Friends and colleagues,
Firstly, we hope you and your loved ones are managing as best you can through these uncertain times. The sports sector was at the forefront in closing down activity as the seriousness of the situation became clear and we are aware the impact that has had on you. We would like to thank all of you for taking this lead. Not only has our sector played an important role in following government guidance, but also in encouraging the public to stay at home.
It has also been great to see that while organised sport is suspended, the sporting sector has innovated to encourage people to keep active in their homes.
We recognise that the crisis is putting a real financial strain on many sports organisations. Scottish Government and sportscotland are committed to working together to support the sporting system through this difficult time.
There is help available. Both Scottish and UK Government have announced a range of support for businesses, the third sector, and the self-employed. We encourage sports organisations and those working in sport to access the support that is available to you.
We have now published an overview of the packages we believe are most applicable for you on the sportscotland website along with an FAQ on sport and COVID-19. We will be adding to this over time as more information and advice becomes available.
Many of your workforce may be interested in learning about ways they can help in their local community. A new ‘Scotland Cares’ campaign has been launched to encourage people to volunteer during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
We know that the health and wellbeing of you and your staff and the financial stability of your organisation will be your top priorities. We also recognise that you will want to keep your members engaged and active, and that in time your attention will turn to preparing for sport after restrictions are lifted. We will be covering these topics on the website as well.
While we still don’t have all the answers in this rapidly changing landscape we do want you to know that we’re here and we will support you. Please stay in touch and feel free to pick up the phone if you have any questions or even just for a chat.
We encourage you to keep talking to your sportscotland Partnership Manager about the impact this crisis is having on your organisation and the clubs and community groups you work with, and the support that you need.
