Scottish Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport

sportscotland is a full signatory of the Scottish Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport. In February last year, when the charter was launched, we were delighted to be among the first to sign up, pledging to further our work to promote good mental health through sport and physical activity.

We have submitted our action plan under the charter to SAMH. It lays out the specific actions we’ll take to promote, educate and raise awareness of mental health, and makes us full signatories.

We know from the work we do in communities across the country the very positive and sometimes life-changing effects that physical activity and sport can have on mental health and wellbeing. By working together, the sporting community can help break down barriers to participation, challenge stigma, and help make a real difference to the lives of people faced with mental health problems.

We hope that more sporting organisations across Scotland will sign up to the Charter and help create positive lasting change in mental health and wellbeing.
